Are there any war movies like Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket?

Usually I **** war movies (Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down) but these two were absolutely brilliant and very thought-provoking. I don’t think of them as war movies but as movies about war. They don’t glorify such an horrific action but rather expose it for what it is. Now please only bother answering if you know what I’m talking about and agree with me about those two.
Oh my gosh… I nearly lolled when I saw that Charlie Sheen is in a Vietnam War movie. Someone’s trying to outshine their dad! Never gonna happen man… never gonna happen. I might give Platoon a look though. It looks alright.

Platoon
The Thin Red Line (Perfect movie if you want thought provoking)
Directed by Terrence Malick
Hamburger Hill
Tears of the sun
Great Escape
Tropic thunder (comedy)
Das Boot
Bridge over the river kwai
The Kingdom
Colditz story
Kingdom of heaven
Band of brothers (T.V series)
Platoon is probably one of the better movies ever made.
Those are 2 excellent original movies… there are not any others exactly like them, but there are some that are similar.
Like “Apocalypse Now”… I would say “Thin Red Line” …It’s got that dreamlike feeling like Apocalypse, but is not as abstract.
Like “Full Metal Jacket”… I would say “Jarhead”… it’s got a vaguely similar plot and harsh comedic sarcasm, but it occurs in the Gulf War instead of Vietnam. “Hamburger Hill” is also a good vietnam war movie, but not really similar to Full Metal jacket.
I agree with you about “Platoon”. I love the movie and other actors, but I absolutely hated Charlie Sheen in that role. The only thing that saved his poor acting job was the incredible job the author/screenwriter did with the development of the character that he played. In my opinion, Johnny Depp, who played the language translator in the same platoon, would have been a much better choice.
courage under fire this is thought provoking and asks how would you react.
kellys heroes this gets you thinking how much of this happend during the war
