According to an interview with J.J. Abrams, some of it is based on non-canonical novels. He didn't say which. sorry. All i know is that the novelization to the movie is coming out on May 12, 2009.
And the prequel comic: Star Trek: Countdown (the last part) the first part came out January. So most likely we can't buy those anymore, damn.
