J.J. Abrams usually does a good job with his projects, but my concern is that it will meet the same fate as the new Superman. Younger, relatively unknown actors trying to revamp an old series, heavy on the CGI and low on substance. The trailer makes it seem like it’s trying too hard to be epic. I’m hopeful, but hesitant.
It looks amazing. It won’t suffer the Superman Returns fate because SR wasn’t a reboot. All reboots are really good these days- Batman Begins, Casino Royale. So this one will be really good too. It takes the Star Trek story and awesome Star Wars CG effects. And I love both Simon Pegg and Zachary Quinto.
Saw the preview when I watched the new James Bond film last weekend.
The Star Trek preview screamed out “action movie” instead of “Star Trek” movie in my opinion, and that’s not a good thing.
I have no idea why Abrams had to redo the TOS Trek. If he was interested in making a Star Trek film, either do a movie focusing on what happened after the events of the series Enterprise, or a movie that focused what happened after TOS films finished off (since there is about 60 years of unexplored story telling), or do something in the timeline of the The Next Generation/Deep Space Nine/Voyager era.
